MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE WALHALLA CITY COUNCIL
September 24, 2019
5:30 pm.
Present: Mayor Danny Edwards, Councilman David Underwood, Councilman Robbie Burrell, Councilman Dennis Owens, Councilman, Councilman Danny Woodward, Councilman Josh Roberts, and City Administrator Brent Taylor.

Mayor Edwards called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm. Councilman Burrell led the pledge of allegiance.
Other Business:
Purchase of a Fire Engine
Mr. Owens made a motion to authorize the Administrator to enter into a contract to purchase a fire engine not to exceed $387,010. The motion was seconded by Mr. Roberts and approved unanimously.
Discussion: Chief Brandon Burton made a presentation regarding the purchase of a new fire engine. It is 2021 Freightliner body that includes 350 Cummings engine, 1750 gallons per minute pump with a 1,000-gallon tank. The ladder is enclosed. It also has a hose reel function that makes it easier to reel in a hose which very beneficial if the department is on a call and immediately has to go to another one.
Mr. Underwood asked, “If there is a warranty?” The chief replied, “One year.”
The Chief presented a list and cost of loose equipment for the truck. He also described the reasons for the overall purchase of an engine.
Mr. Woodward asked, “Will the loose equipment affect the warranty?” The Chief replied, “No.”
The engine is made in Sumter so the department will be able to monitor its production. The close proximity will make it easier for service should that becomes necessary. The Chief anticipates a Spring delivery.
Mayors Comments
The Mayor reminded everyone of the Walhalla High School Homecoming parade this Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Underwood stated there will be a reception honoring “Boomer” this Saturday at the gym.
