The South Catherine Street redesign is set to begin between September 25th and October 5th and be completed in time for the Merchant’s Market and Oktoberfest events later that month. During this time, barricades will be placed at the intersections of S. Catherine and E. Main Streets, and S. Catherine and E. South Broad Streets. Once complete, traffic flow will be one-way, allowing southbound movement from E. Main Street to E. South Broad Street only.

History

During 2020, the City of Walhalla studied the option of changing the traffic pattern from two lanes to one lane on South Catherine St.  This change is between E. Main and E. South Broad.  Public Comment period was held.  The City decided to go with Option 2, to allow southbound traffic only with parallel parking on S. Catherine.  SCDOT approved the request in January 2021.

In 2023, the project was bid and awarded to Asphalt Sealcoating Services, Inc. at the April 18th City Council meeting.
