Walhalla SC, February 6, 2026- The City of Walhalla recognizes Councilwoman Sarai Melendez for completing the inaugural South Carolina Hunt State Policy Fellows Program, a statewide leadership initiative hosted by The Hunt Institute, an affiliate of Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.

Mayor Tim Hall says, “I commend Council member Melendez for taking the initiative to participate in this prestigious program. It is an honor that someone from our council was selected for it.”

One of only 18 local leaders selected statewide, Councilwoman Melendez participated in bipartisan, hands-on learning focused on early childhood, K–12, and postsecondary and workforce education policy. The program equips local officials with practical strategies and statewide connections to strengthen educational outcomes in their communities.A proud Walhallian, Councilwoman Melendez’s participation reflects the City of Walhalla’s continued commitment to informed leadership and community-focused solutions.
