Walhalla, SC – The City of Walhalla is pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Alexander as the City’s new Chief of Police. The appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment and interview process and was approved by City Council.

Chief Alexander brings 16 years of law enforcement leadership experience with a strong focus on community trust, officer professionalism and organizational leadership. Known for leading with integrity, accountability and a service-driven mindset, Alexander has built a reputation for strengthening teams, improving operational standards and fostering a professional culture that prioritizes officer wellness and community safety.

Most recently, Alexander served as Uniform Patrol Bureau Lieutenant and First Sergeant with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, where he served on the command staff overseeing more than 40 uniform patrol deputies, a desk sergeant, and reserve deputies. He also managed the bureau’s fleet program, oversaw the Field Training Program, and responded to major incidents and calls for assistance.

Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, Alexander served with the Seneca Police Department as Patrol Lieutenant, Staff Sergeant, Corporal, and Narcotics Investigator. His responsibilities included supervising the patrol division, managing the department’s K-9 unit, addressing officer and public complaints, and participating in the tactical response team. Earlier in his career, Alexander served with the Walhalla Police Department, where he held positions as Sergeant and Patrol Officer while supervising patrol operations, conducting investigations and coordinating security and traffic planning for special events within the City.

Alexander holds numerous professional certifications including Class I Law Enforcement Officer, Certified Crisis Negotiator, Field Training Manager, SCCJA Certified Instructor, and ALICE Active Shooter Instructor and has completed advanced leadership training through programs such as the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute.

Public Safety Committee Chair Chris Grant praised the selection following the hiring process.
