WALHALLA, S.C. – The City of Walhalla is pleased to announce the appointment of Ed Halbig as the new City Council Clerk. Halbig will serve in this role on a part-time basis, providing administrative support to City Council and maintaining official City records.

The position plays an important role in ensuring transparency and compliance with state and local requirements.
Halbig brings extensive experience in local government, planning and public administration. Most recently, he served as Interim Planning Director for Oconee County Prior to that, he served as Research and Climate Bureau Chief for the New Mexico Department of Transportation, overseeing federally funded research and resilience initiatives.

Halbig previously spent more than two decades with the City of Seneca, where he served as Director of Planning and Development and managed land use planning, staff development and grant-funded infrastructure and transit projects.
He has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 2000 and holds a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Florida State University.

City officials expressed appreciation for Halbig’s willingness to serve the community in this capacity and look forward to the experience he brings to the role.

“We welcome Ed to the team and look forward to working with him. He brings extensive experience that will benefit our Council and the Citizens of Walhalla,” noted Mayor Tim Hall.

Halbig will begin his role on Monday, April 6, 2026.
