The City of Walhalla City Council approved a Way Forward Water Strategy on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Noting that the Water System is a priority for everyone in the City’s government, Council gave its support to Mayor Tim Hall’s proposal that included four key components – addressing immediate and urgent concerns; getting the facts to address the problem; containing the problem; and planning for the long-term.
When addressing immediate and urgent concerns, attention will be focused on pipeline upgrades, the flushing program and alert system. Identifying hotspots, accommodating growth, calculating the cost-benefit for outside lines and commissioning a master water and sewer plan will allow the City to get the facts to address the problem. The City plans to immediately stop extending to new service areas until adequate information is known and upgrades are performed. Finally, the City will seek funding to create the long-term plans and databases needed to enhance the water system and prepare for the future.
Mayor Tim Hall shared “We have to face this head on. These steps are needed to lay the groundwork for a solution to our water and sewer issues for us and for future generations.”
