Walhalla — Road conditions are worsening due to the sleet and freezing rain. Conditions are expected to continue through Friday night. Many roads will become impassable. All residents and visitors are asked to stay home and off the roads. If travel is necessary, please use main thoroughfares whenever possible.
A temporary shelter is now open at College Street Baptist Church, located at 401 S College Street, Walhalla. Red Cross cots and blankets will be provided. The shelter is open to men, women and children; pets are not allowed. For additional information, please contact 1-864-364-5911.
Protect faucets, outdoor pipes and pipes in unheated areas. Dripping cold water from the farthest faucet from your main valve during freezing temperatures will keep water moving the pipes and help prevent the lines from freezing. In the event of water line bursts, please contact the on-call operator at 1-864-499-4162.
In the event of power outages, contact your electric power and use alternative heating sources carefully and by the manufacturer’s instructions.
